Welcome Virgin America!

Hello Virgin America. Competition is good. As of today, Virgin America has begun ticket sales to NYC and LAX from SFO. The response? A flooded Virgin America website and long delay times over the phone. I’d say they’re looking to be a strong player out of San Francisco.

United responded over the top with a fare sale. $22 each way from SFO-LAX. Total? 65ish RT taxes included! The SFO-JFK flights are even better- $160 RT all in! Does anyone want to go to New York for a weekend?

I wish them the best of luck. I look forward to giving them a chance.

P.S. The fares are valid from Aug 9 to Mid November.

**edit- Apparently United Airlines only meant to MATCH the fare sale, not go over the top. As of this morning, prices have been corrected. According to the San Jose Mercury News, hackers implemented a DOS attack. Apparently those script kiddies have nothing better to do.

Mutual Funds- Which ones to buy?

Well, I’m looking into changing horses so to speak.  I currently own a fair bit of VICEX, which has been beating the market since it’s inception.  It is a mutual fund of all (legal) vices; gambling, alcohol, tobacco, and firearms.  No matter what, these industries have always done great regardless of the current economy.  However, I do need to diversify with other industries and countries.

However, I want to start looking into some additional growth funds.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  I was thinking buying one of the India, China, or South America funds, but am thinking of purchasing a general overseas portfolio fund.  I know the Japanese funds have been taking a beating lately, but I still think they might be overvalued.  I am specifically looking for a medium to low risk fund with a high rate of return (duh), and with managers with a buy and hold mentality rather than a constant churn of stocks in the portfolio.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions!

I have to go to the Kwik-E-Mart!  Does anyone want to come?

I had a great weekend.  Camping, Wakeboarding at 2AM by moonlight,  clubbing, movies on TV, and SLEEP.

How was yours?
