Am I the only one worried about the problems going on in Burma? Oh wait, you do know what’s going on in Burma, right?

A quick rundown:

Last week, Buddhist monks started a peaceful pro-democracy protest. Some government police officers injured some of the monks that participated. From there, it swelled to a larger week-long protest. They are hoping to call for more peace and love, reminiscent of the 60′s flower children protesting their government and exploring more ways to love and show kindness.

Unfortunately, it’s not going very well.

Earlier this week, government troops started to shoot warning shots towards the monks. I am flabbergasted! These are MONKS! They don’t exactly fight back!

Here is a news link

According to some news reports and from what I can see from some of the pictures, civilians are pretty much surrounding the monks as human shields to help prevent shootings by government troops. However, the monks are asking for citizens NOT to do so, as they value their lives more than their own. The whole situation just looks like a powder keg waiting to blow. As of today, there are differing reports of injuries, but from what I have been reading 9 Monks and Civilians have been KILLED. If too many Monks get killed or injured; the people will revolt- which will result in a massacre. Call me a pessimist, but I don’t hold too much faith in a peaceful outcome.
Even more, I have yet to see much any American news footage. I hope people don’t forget that the world is bigger than just the USA. Remember what is going on with Dafur and what happened in Rwanda? This has the potential to be just as bad….if not worse.

I guess we can all use a little more peace, kindness, and love.

So today strangers, will you do me a favor? Show a little bit of compassion. Spread a little love. Do a random act of kindness.

Cheers!
